Living House
Normal was asked by Daiwa House, a maker of prefabricated homes, to develop concepts for houses suited to the Japanese market over the next 50 years. Our proposal was a design that completely incorporates the principals of "Cradle to Cradle" (www.mcdonough.com/cradle_to_cradle.htm) which at that time was practically unknown in Japan.
The most prominent feature of the building is the oblique wraparound roof garden. Roof gardens are common in Japan, but are generally found on larger buildings such as department stores, and never before on prefabricated houses.
